Your jewelry should be cleaned regularly; whether you wear it every day or only occasionally, it requires care and attention.
The recommendations below will help you to preserve it in its original condition.
The surface of jewelry can become dulled. Dust, pollution and daily wear all conspire to cloud the brilliance. With the appropriate care, the beauty and the character of your jewelry will last for a long time.
In general, we recommend avoiding xxx direct contact with cosmetics like perfumes and creams. The particles present in these cosmetics, which are not eliminated by rapid rinsing, may become lodged in cavities and form a corrosive blend of materials that in the long term may lead to premature deterioration of the metal.
Take your regular activities into account when choosing your jewelry. Avoid wearing it on the beach, at the swimming pool or when doing sport so as to avoid knocks and scratches.
The provided linen bags from Judith & Jules will protect it from abrasion and offer a degree of tarnish prevention.
Sterling silver tarnishes and oxidizes naturally with air and humidity, especially when exposed to salt air.
However, silver that is regularly used typically needs less care, so we strongly encourage you to use or wear your silver every day.
In case your silver chains or pendants get oxidized, we recommend washing them by hand with warm water and mild detergent. To avoid spotting, it is important to dry your silver immediately after washing it. We also recommend the use of a smooth silver polishing cloth to remove the remaining discoloration.
Some "dip" polishes contain harsh chemicals and should be avoided.
Once cleaned and polished, silver must be kept dry and properly stored.
GOLD and GOLD-PLATED (VERMEIL)
In general, we recommend avoiding wearing jewelry when you are sleeping, swimming, or participating in sporting activities. Also avoid contact with perfumes and make-up.
The patina tends to disappear over time. The speed at which this disappears depends on the way in which the jewelry is cared for. Loss of patina is a normal phenomenon resulting from wear and tear.
Gold and vermeil jewelry can be maintained with a non-abrasive cleaner.
Avoid exposing gold jewelry to household bleach, which will quickly cause gold to discolor and possibly disintegrate.
Jewelry storage is important as well. At the time of purchase, all Judith & Jules jewelry is wrapped in a protective linen bag. Between wears, we recommend that you place it back in its original bag or another suitably lined box or pouch.
GEMSTONESTake care to protect your jewelry from impact against hard surfaces and avoid contact with abrasive surfaces.
Many stones such as amethyst, emerald, kunzite, opal, pearl, peridot, tanzanite and tourmaline are very delicate and easily abraded. Gemstones can scratch other gemstones and wear away at precious metals. Extreme temperatures, perfumes, cosmetics, ultrasonic cleaning and household chemicals can also damage jewelry.
We recommend a professional cleaning once a year.
